President Duma Boko of Botswana at the Agreement event via a Government-to-Government partnership with Oman
The Government has reached a major energy milestone with the groundbreaking and Power Purchase Agreement signing for the 500MW Maun Solar PV Plant and 500MWh battery storage.
President Duma Boko said the project marks the nationβs shift from planning to execution, aiming to boost energy security and sustainability.
Developed via a Government-to-Government partnership with Oman, the plant will supply clean power to the national grid, supported by storage for peak demand.
The government is targeting 50% renewable energy by 2030 (up from 8%), as President Boko declared that Botswana aspires to become a regional energy hub.
The 30-year Independent Power Producer project will reduce carbon emissions, cut import reliance, attract investment, and enable citizen participation in the green economy. BWgovernment Facebook page
